Tap-Trap - Il tappo trappolaThe best baits for the trap

Thanks to decades of experience in catching insects with bottles, we have developed several recipes for specific types of insect. To use with 1.5 litre plastic water bottle

Hornets and Wasps

Mix three tablespoons of sugar or of honey with 50 to 70 centilitres of red wine vinegar and ½ litre of water.  Alternatively, blend sweet white wine (or white wine sweetened with sugar or honey) with 20 to 30 centilitres of mint syrup (roughly equivalent to a small glass).

Moths, Carpus and many other types of Lepidopters

Mix 6 or 7 tablespoons of sugar to one litre of wine and then add 15 cloves and half cinnamon stick; leave the mixture to flavour for 15 days and then blend it with 3 litres of water.  Four litres of this bait will fill 8 bottle-traps  (½ litre of the substance in each).

Fruit Flies (Cherry, Citrus, Walnut, Olive Orchards etc...)

Pour ½ litre of liquid ammonia (the one used for cleaning, with no added scent) into the plastic bottle and the bait is ready, as ammonia comes already diluted in the right amount of 5%)  If desired, a sardine may be added to the bait to turn it into a proteinaceous bait.

All kind of Common Flies and Blow Flies

Pour into the bottle ½ litre of water and add raw fish scraps, sardines, anchovies, and similar baits (roughly 20 to 30 grams).

The ideal position of the bottles is from 1 to metres from the ground.

TAP-TRAP® offers the chance to try out new baits: we will be happy to pass on news of any new formulas discovered by our customers.

USEFUL ADVICE

If you aren’t satisfied with the number of flies caught after your TAP-TRAP® has been in place for a few days, try moving it (usually a few metres is enough) until you find the right place. This works both indoors (in stables, animal breeding units, etc.) and outdoors.

We are currently testing TAP-TRAP® with pheromones for various insects.

As soon as we have more information, we will publish it on our website.

NB: For the correct use of the traps, follow the instructions on their packets.

In the meantime, contact us for any information or advice you might require.
